Although children like chatting online and can be great fun, young people can sometimes find themselves in situations where they can feel out of their depth.

Online can often seem very different to the real life and "its not real"and that's one of the biggest dangers.

Children are so tempted to say and do things that they wouldn't dream of if they met someone face to face include giving out mobile numbers and pictures of themselves.
Other online dangers are texting abusive messages and posts , inappropriate picture on mobile phones and on website profiles.

Unfortunately, pedophiles - do have the internet and WAP and have access to social networks .

guidance for protecting children using social networking
- Only upload pictures that you as their parents / carer would be happy to see ( sexy picture are very dangerous) If it can not be passed round the dinner table should NOT make it on to the internet or WAP.
- Get your children not to post their phone number or email address on their homepage or profile page.
- Help your child to adjust their account settings so that only approved friends can instant message them. instant message / chat is very dangerous if open to all.
- Check if your child has ticked the “no picture forwarding” option on their social networking site settings page – this will stop people sending pictures from their page.
- If your not Social Network Savvy ask your children to show you around and how to use a social networking site - getting involved will empower them to share the experience with you.
